THE BIG SING!

The Big Sing! is a fabulous new event created to bring people together by forming a community choir in a day with a celebratory concert that evening. With all profits from the day going to the local charity Mindspace, this event truly places music at the heart of the community and we would love for you to join us. The Big Sing! will take place on Saturday, 12 October, at the Oswald Elliott Hall at Stamford School. Rehearsals will take place from 10am-5pm, followed by the concert at 7pm.  The founder and musical director Brooke Peverell said: “The Big Sing! is set to be an incredible event bringing together people from across the community to sing as one, all while supporting a fantastic charity. At a time when things in the world can feel difficult and divided, it's more important than ever to come together– and what better way to do that than through the power of music.” All profits from The Big Sing! will go to MindSpace Stamford, which works to improve the wellbeing of people living, working and learning in Stamford through a community approach.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do I need to be able to read music or have sung before to take part in The Big Sing! ?

Absolutely not! We want people of all ability and experience levels to join us. All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to work together with other people in order to create something amazing. Brooke is highly experienced in working with people who have never sung before and our team will be on hand to help with anything you need.

What are the timings of the day?

Rehearsals for the choir start at 10am and run through until 5pm with refreshment breaks and a break for lunch at 1pm. The concert starts at 7pm, so you will have time to have food and get changed before our spectacular showcase!

Is lunch provided?

You will need to bring your own food and drink. Please do not bring any food containing nuts into the rehearsal space. M&S, Tesco Express and a number of cafes are in close proximity to the hall.

Are there any age limits?

Only over 18s can take part in the choir. This is to keep everyone involved in the day safe. There are no upper age limits for singing with us and children are welcome to attend the concert, provided they have a ticket and an adult accompanying them.

Is there parking on site?

There is limited parking on site and most of these spaces will be reserved for our lead team members, volunteers and those with blue badges. However, there is a wealth of parking across town, all within walking distance of the hall. We recommend using the car parks at Cattlemarket (PE9 2WB), Wharf Road (PE9 2EB) Bath Row (PE9 2WE) or North Street (PE9 1EG). We encourage you to think of the environment and car share where possible.

What will we be singing?

We believe a fundamental part of being part of a choir is learning together. For this reason, we are keeping the programme a tightly guarded secret but can guarantee a wide range of music, ensuring a truly uplifting and moving experience with something for everyone.

Why do I need to pay to be part of the choir?

The Big Sing! is a fundraising event with all profits going to Mindspace Stamford. Even though we are selling the tickets and organising the event, no one involved in the day is taking payment of any sort, including Brooke. There are substantial costs involved with providing you with music and lyrics and your fee will help to cover this. We believe strongly that musicians should be recognised for their work and whilst we are not taking any payment for The Big Sing! we stand by and support paying artists, writers and arrangers to use their songs to bring us all together, supporting our local community.
